Palagi Beach

A few weeks ago we made it to the far-off "Palagi Beach." After a failed attempt getting to Massacre Bay because of the rain Saul, Addie, Alex and I hopped on a bus to Amanave. We wanted to do some "adventuring" and weren't about to let a little rain chase us back into the house all day. Alex called her friend, got some directions, and we were off on the first bus to Amanave  that we saw. Leone (where we live in AmSam) is on the west coast of American Samoa. Leone High School is the furthest high school to west on the island. Amanave is even further west and it becomes a bit rural. I was completely smitten with Amanave. It was the cutest little village. Very clean and quaint. We hopped off the bus at the very last stop and headed towards the "path" that leads to Palagi Beach. I say path loosely being that it's more of a tight-rope walk across an itty bitty ledge. We had thought that Palagi Beach would be a lot more difficult to get to but it wasn't bad at all after the initial sketchy ledge. It probably helped that we went at super low tide. After about 45 minutes scrambling over rocks we arrived at an idyllic white sand beach lined with palm trees. My handsome manly man of a husband found a coconut and cracked it open using a rock. We were able to try the fluffy, angel-cake textured coconut meat that's only found in coconuts that have started to sprout. This kind of gnars me out because I feel that it serves the same function as mold but....when in AmSam [I guess?]. I tried it, it tasted fine. The water at Palagi Beach is perfect to cool off in but not so perfect for snorkeling. Good fun though! It definitely gave us some West Side Pride as most sandy[ish] beaches are out towards the east.

Yikes! Addie really likes sea cucumbers.

We had to continue for awhile over rocks.
