Long Weekend in Madrid

We were able to be super active last weekend in Madrid with my first trimester being a thing of the past and all. I only had about a week of the typical "morning sickness" (in reality mine was all day) around week six but I was still super tired all of the time. In the past week[ish] I've felt SO much better with the exception of these brutal headaches I get every so often.

So the husband and I seized the opportunity and went for a lovely bike ride along the Madrid Rio on Friday (we played hooky). Electric bikes are all the rage here so when we went to rent bikes and asked for the standard ones even though they were only 2 euros cheaper, the rental guy looked at us like we were crazy. It was a good way to see a new part of the city and get some exercise. Along the river there were some of the craziest playgrounds I've ever seen so naturally we had to try them out. Amazing!

On Saturday we walked to Parque del Retiro (think Central Park). We went on a nice stroll through the park, saw the crystal palace and settled on a spot to play Rummy 500 on our picnic blanket. It was a great afternoon even though the park is packed like Disneyland on Saturdays when there is nice weather.

Sunday we went to an open air market in La Latina. We only took 4 euros so had no intention of actually buying anything but it was fun nonetheless. We took the long walk back to our apartment but made a few pit stops: frozen yogurt and El Cortes Ingles to reassure ourselves about a stroller that Saul found online a couple weeks ago (yes, he's amazing).

Friday

This zip line was part of the park that stretches along the river.

It was amazing.

We chose the non electric bikes :)

Because I like to make cool faces when I ride bikes.

At this point, the attractions at the park were attached to the bottom of the bridge.

Yeah... No upper body strength. I couldn't make it up.

My husband owned it though.

This was like a tea cup at Disneyland. Self-propelled.

Why?!?

Saul agreed that the guy was a weirdo.

An art exhibit near where we rented the bikes.

Saturday
We've been saying we'd rent a boat at Retiro since we got here. Someday lol
