Honeymoon Report Part 3: Rome

After Florence we continued on to Rome for 4 nights. We decided this was our favorite stop on our honeymoon. It's a mix of all things amazing: romance, history, nightlife, diversity, FOOD etc. I know that at some point in my life I'll have to find a way to get my Eat, Pray, Love on and live in Rome. We ate gelato twice a day, we roamed in Rome.. a lot and we became honorary vinos. Here's a quick recap:

We got to Rome about mid-day and decided to take it easy and walk around near our hotel [Relais Trevi 41]. The Pantheon was about a 5 minute walk around the corner.

Piazza Navona was beautiful!! :) I think we'd stay here the next time we go to Rome.

The Trevi Fountain. Literally right next door to our hotel

The next day we decided to sleep in and then head to Pastificio for lunch.  It's 4 Euros and you get the pasta of the day and wine. It's also right near the Spanish Steps so the surrounding area is beautiful as well! We ended up having lunch here twice while in Rome. Needless to say it was so so good!

After lunch we jumped on the metro to the Colosseum. The line for the Colosseum or the "Colloseo" as the Romans call it, was outrageous so we decided to buy a two day pass for "Ancient Rome" and went to Palentine Hill instead.

We didn't really know what to expect from Palentine Hill but it ended up being soo neat. So many preserved ruins.

We headed to the Colosseum the next day which had to be the coolest historical ruin I've ever been to. Can't believe the things that took place there.

You can see a piece of the sand covered stage that used to cover the pit behind Saul.

This column at the Colosseum was higher than it looked. We had to use our mad hops to get up there. :)

Pastaficio Part 2 after the Colosseum on the Spanish Steps

San Crispino gelato from the movie//book Eat, Pray, Love. Our hotel was the next door over. While it was good, it was definitely not the best.

Private "honeymoon" segway tour through Rome with Rex Tours was so much fun. Thanks Tripadvisor!

Different view of Palentine Hill on our tour.

The Colosseum at night. We took off the neon colored vest for this one. After seeing Ancient Rome by segway, we headed to the Jewish ghetto, Trastevere and a few other places. We ended up going something like 14 miles on our segways.

On our walking tour the next day we saw this man handcuff himself to the fence in front of one of the Italian government buildings.

Here's the Pantheon again. It's pretty amazing to think that it used to be covered in white marble.

Piazza Navona, again.

In front of St. Peter's Basilica.

Annnddd... on top of St. Peter's Basilica.

My thinking husband in the Vatican. Such a huge museum. Though it was pretty crazy the maze they make you get through to enter the Sistine Chapel.

Vatican stairs.

Finally, our favorite gelato in all of Italy "Giolotti." They put fresh whipped creme on top of the three flavors of gelato and the cone is half dipped in chocolate. It can't be beat. It's making me hungry thinking about it now.

Takeee meeee backkkkkkkk. :)
