I want to start this post by saying how proud I am of my little cousin Malcolm. He is doing some big things. For those of you who don't know, Malcolm is one half of the up and coming musical group MKTO. Chels and I have been following his music for a while now. We got to experience hearing his song at the store in our front yard in American Samoa, then we saw his video on VH1, and now we finally got to see him perform in person.
We unfortunately just missed a chance to see him in Los Angeles because we flew out to New York the day before the show, but realized that he was actually going to be in NYC just after we returned from seeing Beyonce in Los Angeles. Malcolm, being the awesome cousin that he is, was able to get us tickets to his show and even made time to hang out with us before/after. It was nice chatting with him in the green room before and after the show and meeting the rest of the band that he was touring with. It's good to know that he is surrounded with good people.
Our seats for the actual show were great. We had a great vantage point of the stage from the balcony just to the side. It was nice that we were set apart from his rabid teenage girl fans who were crowding the general admission pit area. Addie got a first hand experience with how crazy the girls are over MKTO when she went to get a feel for the general admission area. She pushed her way to the front and was met with screams interlaced with tears and physical violence. I was legitimately worried for her safety.
The show itself was amazing. Their songs are extremely catchy and easy to sing along with, and their stage presence (especially Malcom's I must say) is spectacular. I can't put into words how proud I am of Malcolm, especially after watching him work the crowd. I wanted to yell out "that's my little cousin" for everyone to hear. Cheesy I know, but it feels acceptable since he is family. Malcolm did a great job of making us feel involved even though he was on stage, pointing up at us and even trying to spray us with a water gun (even though Chels gave him a harsh warning now to when she saw him playing with it before the show). He was a great host to us, and I'm thankful that he made so much time for us considering his demanding schedule when he is on tour.
